Fan Fan

Fan Fan – the little boy who has cerebral palsy and is receiving therapy provided by Beijing United Family Hospital and sponsored by the Beijing United Foundation.

He has shown great improvement with regard to the aqua therapy treatment he is undergoing. His speech therapy continues to show improvement and his ability to walk has now reached the stage where he can walk two meters unaided.

In April 2014, I met him as a five year old boy who was suffering from cerebral palsy during a regular health Checkup meeting with parents. I noticed the young boy was being carried by his mother. Upon finding out that Hu Yi Fan (Fan Fan) had a physical disability and started a conversation with his mother.

From that moment, with the help of the Beijing United Hospital, Fan Fan underwent various courses of therapy to determine the extent of his illness and ascertain the best procedure to follow to mitigate his condition.
He returned to the hospital to undergo an MRI brain scan. After these checks the extent of Fan Fan’s cerebral palsy was determined as well as a further diagnosis of epilepsy. Just a few days later, he took part in his first ever therapy session. Thanks to the generosity of Beijing United Hospital and Beijing United Foundation, Fan Fan received one and a half hours of speech and physical therapy twice a week

Fan Fan has continued to improve on his journey of rehabilitation through physiotherapy.

A smiling and excited Fan Fan exhibits signs of significant improvement in an enhanced range of his physical movements. His mother, Yanyun, also received instructions on how to help her son improve by a program of daily exercises between the physiotherapy visits. Speech therapy has also worked some magic as his communication skills improved.

These therapies have combined to offer Fan Fan a greater quality of life. When MCF first met the five-year old, he was being carried by his mother, who was his only mode of transport. Now, he can stand on his own and is excitingly trying to walk with the aid of specially designed walking shoes that provide support.

“I just don’t know what I would have done without MCF.”
– Hu Yanyun

On 14th June 2017 Fan Fan moved on to another level in his improvements and development with the aid of the H.O.P.E charity organization. Riding a horse has great advantages for people that suffer from cerebral palsy and develops their ability for balance and movement. The plan was for Fan Fan to attend lessons provided by the H.O.P.E. organization every week.
