Wellbeing

Programs dedicated to the essentials of a healthy and happy life.

Health checkups

Another MCF cornerstone is the life-enhancing Health Check Program. This project is in conjunction with GlobalCare Hospital and the migrant schools MCF works with. MCF brings children to the hospital where they receive a full health check that is paid for by MCF and our sponsors. To date, over 6500 children have benefited from the extensive health checks and one life was substantially lengthened and enhanced thanks to early detection of heart problems.

Glasses Galore

Poor eyesight often keeps children at the low end of educational achievement. To counter this, MCF has created the Glasses Galore Program, during which children undergo eye examinations and are provided glasses if poor eyesight is detected. So far, over 400 children have received glasses and their participation in class and marks have improved.

.

Dental care

Having healthy teeth and gums, and knowing how to look after them, is essential for anyone, especially children.

As a child, you always tend to go for foods which can cause problems later on in life. Dental care is a new program that MCF started in partnership with the Oasis Hospital which entails taking the children to the Hospital, and examining and treating their teeth with fluoride.

The care for your teeth activities is done in a fun and interactive way using plastic molds for children to practice on to give them hands on experiences.

Culture and Fun

Programs dedicated to offer children an array of diverse experiences and broadening their horizons.

Fun with Science

fun with scienceFun With Science Program is a hugely successful event that happens once a month. Dedicated members of the Royal Society of Chemistry (Beijing Local Section), the Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Institute of Physics and Peking University volunteers come to our migrant schools to expose students to the fascinating world of Chemistry and Physics. Under the watchful eye of Chemistry Professor David Evans and Professor Richard De Grijs enthusiastic students experiment and learn about Physics and Chemistry in a fun and hands on way.

Friday Sessions – Arts & Crafts

MCF organizes fun-filled sessions with the kids at the kindergarten, learning about animals, family and action words such as clapping (hands) and stamping (feet). We introduce Bingo for our review class, and the children soon get the hang of the game, listening carefully for each word and coloring in the right picture. Pen control may be the focus of one worksheet as the children carefully traced dotted words. Most of all, the kids love singing Baby Shark, a great way to learn the names for family members. It is wonderful to see everyone (including us!) on their feet performing all the sharky moves!

Virtual (online) Buddy Program

This is an eight week virtual program every Saturday morning 10.00 – 11.00 am via Tencent for high school students. The aim of the program is to support the MCF’s students in ways that help their homework, speaking and reading English. The volunteers also act as role models and mentors for these students, teaching them skills such as interacting and communicating effectively with others. At the end of the 8 weeks, both volunteers and MCF’s students will be presented with an appreciation certificate, and if required, a reference letter signed by the Founder.

School outings

Thanks to this MCF program, students have gotten out of the classroom and into lots of interesting venues around Beijing. Over the years hundreds of students have visited Beijing Zoo, the Great Wall, the World Park, the World Flower Park, the Science Museum, Beijing National Library and many more. These trips happen thanks to our supporters and sponsors’ generosity and are a vital part of the children getting a well-rounded education, helping build confidence, giving them a sense of belonging and improving their well being.

Secret Santa

Over the past four years over four thousand children have received Christmas presents. Thanks to MCF’s partners and sponsors an army of volunteers wrapped and distributed these presents to excited and grateful children, many of whom had never been on the receiving end of such a great community effort.

Future Thinkers

“FT” is a joint project between MCF and ArkA that aims to harness students’ potential for design through mentorship, learning and teamwork. It is a program designed to encourage and inspire students to work together, to create a space conducive for learning for underprivileged students. By working together, MCF and ArkA aim to bring a new opportunity for the students annually, aiming to:

  1. Contribute to the community by building a reading space for its students.
  2. Share principles of architecture and design to the students.
  3. Foster cooperation, social skills, creative thinking and teamwork among the participants.
  4. Contribute to the implementation of international schools’ CAS/IB program.
  5. Further develop confidence and skills in MCF students.

Improvisation Program

MCF is continuously searching for ways to develop children’s creativity, imagination and their communication skills in terms of both speaking and listening.

It is important to understand that in particular, after the past couple of years with the pandemic, the ability to accept and adapt to a particular situation is an important aspect of people’s lives. Hence, MCF has brought a new program called MCF Improvisation to encourage young people to think on their feet and improvise through adaptation and spontaneous thinking.

This program will give the children the opportunity to develop the above-mentioned skills in a fun and interactive way.

The MCF Connect Program

“MCF Connect Program” creates connections across schools and organizations, providing a platform for students of various ages at international schools, to be creative and organize activities to do with children at MCF schools.

These can be set up for one-off midweek sessions or can be regular sessions at one or more schools. These sessions are vital in giving migrant students a range of learning opportunities, discovering more about education, other people, the world and themselves through a wider range of subjects than is offered by their basic curriculum of English, Math and Chinese.
