As students from Beijing World Youth Academy, we are happy to volunteer at MCF between April 22nd and April 25th. This has been a fruitful experience for us, and the most unforgettable part is the visit to a kindergarten that is in partnership with MCF.
On the morning of April 24th, we arrived at the kindergarten, which is not too far from the subway station and we met Ms. Helen, the founder of MCF. Our task was to help the kindergarten host a visit from Beijing City International school (BCIS). At approximately ten o’clock, the BCIS students arrived, and we helped organize the students into three groups to enable the BCIS children to mingle with the children from the kindergarten. We also did some translation work to help organise things. After this, the BCIS students proceeded to teach kids from the kindergarten how to make a gift card for Mother’s Day. We were really glad to see how kids from different backgrounds can harmoniously cooperate with each other to reach a unanimous aim. Later, the kids danced with music together, which makes this experience even more memorable.
Via the experience, we learnt that we can do minor things to make the world a better place. The BCIS kids spent a small effort to prepare a lesson about how to make gift cards, but the impact on the kids in the kindergarten has been profound. The kids now have a wonderful gift for their parents. Even though the effort of an individual may be small, if we join hands and work together, there will be dramatic improvements to the condition of those who need help. Although the internship at MCF was quite short, we are now ready to make use of the knowledge we learnt and try to make the world a better place starting from helping those who are near us.
