This young boy’s case was brought to our attention by a teacher at the nursery in Tianjin that MCF is supporting.
Li Yushuo was born in Jan 2018 in Tianjin. When he was five months old, he accidentally slipped off the sofa and broke his right calf. It took him two months to recover. When he was over one year old and playing with his big sister, he broke his collarbone. At the age of one and a half, he broke his left calf and it took him over two months before he could walk again.
When he was two and a half years old, his mother thought he was too fragile, so she took him to the General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University for examination. He had a blood test and an X-ray. It turned out that he is suffering from a condition known as osteogenesis imperfecta.
Li Yushuo can’t play like other children, cannot run and jump, or even attend the kindergarten.
He has to take medication every week and undergo regular examinations.
Though he was responding to the medication, it was discovered he also is not growing at the same rate as a child of his age. The diagnosis to rectify his condition would involve growth hormonal treatment, regular physical examinations and long-term medication. All of this would put great hardship on the family and it is a challenge that would be difficult for them to meet.
The situation at present is further tests and a scan have been carried out to decide how best to treat this young boy. MCF met the medical expenses today, but it is obvious the child’s road to recovery will unfortunately be a long one. MCF intends to support Li Yushuo on this journey. I would like to thank the Beijing United Foundation for their support and interest in this child’s wellbeing.
